Ottawa again captures three at the 2026 national housing awards

Ottawa’s housing industry took home three trophies at the 2026 national housing awards, the same as last year. The gala event took place May 8 in Québec City.

Local homebuilders, renovators and allied businesses were nominated for 21 awards for this year’s Canadian Home Builders’ Association’s (CHBA) National Awards for Housing Excellence.

The Ottawa-area winners are Lagois Design-Build-Renovate, which walked off with two trophies, and Land Ark Construction, which won an award with Airtight Home Technologies, Building Knowledge Canada, Cavanagh Concrete, Gaylord Forest Products Ltd., Spectrum Kitchen & Bath Design, and Terra Nova Truss.

This year’s CHBA awards saw 900 entries in 49 categories.

The new, bright kitchen and eating area in Lagois’ Achieving Hygge project.

Lagois, which was a finalist in four categories, won the award for best whole home renovation under $200,000 for a Scandinavian-inspired project called Achieving Hygge. Hygge is a Danish word meaning a cosy feeling of conviviality and contentedness.

The open-concept kitchen, which was previously dark and isolated from the rest of the home, is the heart of this project. Designed to encourage togetherness, the new space features light cabinetry with sage-coloured lower cabinets, white countertops and natural maple hardwood to create an open feeling. The peninsula and multi-purpose nook also encourage interaction within the young family.

Other features of the makeover include more light in the front entrance, thanks to a full glass door and side panel, a floor-to-ceiling bank of kitchen pantry cupboards and additional bench storage.

Lagois also won the national award for best website. Visually appealing and easy to navigate, the site captures the company’s commitment to thoughtful, award-winning renovations, including close attention to client relationships and more than four decades of experience.

The CHBA’s best production net zero home award was won by Land Ark Construction with Airtight Home Technologies, Building Knowledge Canada, Cavanagh Concrete, Gaylord Forest Products Ltd., Spectrum Kitchen & Bath Design, and Terra Nova Truss.

The award-winning home is the current model home at Land Ark’s Watercolour Westport development in the Village of Westport on the Rideau River southwest of Ottawa. The community features net zero ready homes inspired by heritage Ontario cottages.

Land Ark was previously a finalist in the CHBA’s net zero production home category in 2024.
