What initially appeared to be a straightforward front door replacement turned into a much more extensive repair once the existing door and frame were removed. We uncovered significant water damage and rotted wood around the entrance, particularly at the sill and lower framing. Our team removed the deteriorated material, rebuilt and reinforced the damaged areas, and installed a new exterior door with updated hardware. The finished entrance is secure, properly supported and cleanly finished, with the underlying water damage addressed rather than simply covered up.

This national and local award-winning contemporary bungalow, designed by Hobin Architecture, is built on a cliff top with a cantilevered terrace overlooking a densely treed ravine and a walkout basement with stunning views. Taking full advantage of the unusual site, the home is designed for one-floor living and readily adapts for family or multigenerational owners, working from home, entertaining, aging in place and more. The home is also net zero.

This is a timeless, warm, neutral kitchen with splashes of black and natural wood. Key elements of the design included a coffee bar, built-in pantries with pull-outs and storage on both sides of the island. We added warmth through pendant lights, undercounter lights and pot lights, while the black pulls, faucet and granite sink added timeless elegance and the glass doors with lights finished the design off beautifully. Refinishing the hardwood floors with a matte finish gave life back to their hardwood floors.

This project is the Ottawa area’s first net zero coach house. Yet while it is a supplementary dwelling, it’s by no means tiny, boasting vaulted ceilings, more than 900 sq. ft., two bedrooms, smart home features and was built with accessibility in mind. There’s also an emphasis on indoor-outdoor living, with a large covered patio and an abundance of large windows to let in the view and natural light.

Once a drafty 1970s bungalow with aluminum wiring, pests and much heat loss, this house has been transformed into a high-performance, net zero ready home. It was not a typical renovation — it was a full-scale rebuild guided by durability, occupant health and energy efficiency. Behind its refined, contemporary finishes, a continuous building envelope and optimized HVAC system delivers exceptional comfort, air quality and long-term performance. Registered with National Resources Canada and showcased during the 2025 GOHBA RenoTour Parade of Homes, this home stands as a benchmark for sustainable residential design. Located just minutes south of Manotick, it offers a rare opportunity to own a move-in-ready, future-forward home built to last.

A delightfully charming farmhouse renovation with BEX Interiors captured the All Things Home People’s Choice Award at the 2021 Ottawa Housing Design Awards. Updating for today’s modern living while respecting the history of the home, the kitchen remodel included a combination of Hanstone Artisan Grey quartz perimeter counters paired with a reclaimed bowling alley floor for the butcher block island countertop.

Blending French provincial and European farmhouse influences, this open-concept kitchen-living space features custom cabinetry from Potvin Construction. Potvin also supplied the kitchen countertops as well as cabinetry and counters in the pantry, mudroom and laundry room of the new single-storey custom home. The kitchen is the heart of this home, and the neutral tones of the cabinetry and counters along with special touches like the open shelving in the island make it an airy, welcoming gathering spot for family and friends.

A dark kitchen with poor flow, a drab home office with no privacy, a hopeless powder room: these and many other problems meant a makeover of this rural bungalow was a must. Working closely with the owners, Lagois delivered a new, bright, open-concept kitchen with plentiful prep space, a handsome new fireplace anchoring the living room, a flexible-living-based office, a stunning deep green powder room, and more.

It was a case of old being made new again when Crossford Construction took on the restoration and modernization of a waterfront stone home and barn built circa 1830. Overlooking Big Rideau Lake, the home was gutted and retrofitted with loving attention to detail, a new addition replaced the unworkable existing add-on, and the award-winning barn found new life as a gathering spot for family and friends with a workshop beneath. A stunning central staircase, a heart-of-the-home kitchen and a new sunroom are among the home’s delights.

Designed to “wow” visitors, the annual Dream of a Lifetime lottery grand prize home, with Laurysen as a proud partner, showcases some of the best that Ottawa has to offer. The 2024 home has already won national accolades, including for the Laurysen-supplied kitchen, designed in conjunction with Tanner Vine Interiors. The Nordic-influenced space features a 25-foot run of custom cabinetry, including glass-fronted storage, a stunning 13-foot cantilevered island, integrated appliances and a hidden pantry with a prep kitchen inside.

This “Mid-Century Marvel” was both a provincial awards winner and a local awards finalist in 2024. Mid-century modern style inspired the project, including an open-concept kitchen with striking wood elements and a bar area (shown), a remodeled bathroom in contrasting dark and light hues, a family room with a fireplace and dining area, and a generous foyer with large tiles and a wood accent wall.
