There are multiple developments on the go in north Kanata and Northwoods is one of them, with homes being built by Mattamy Homes. The development will see about 1,000 homes, a mix of three-storey, back-to-back townhomes, traditional townhomes and singles.
There are currently five model homes to see: three townhomes and two single-family homes. Here’s what you’ll see if you check out the Northwoods model homes.
The Harmony
This two-storey single comes with 2,744 square feet plus an extra 824 square feet in the finished basement. Done in generous doses of black and charcoal, it features an open-concept main floor with both a flex space and a den that can be kept open or walled off. In the model, the wall between the kitchen and den has been added for a semi-private office. (There’s an option to add a guest suite in lieu of the den.)
Upstairs there are three bedrooms, the laundry and a large family room loft with fireplace, which can be converted to a fourth bedroom, while the basement boasts both a TV and games area and the optional bathroom is completed.

The Essence
This two-storey single is among Mattamy’s largest singles, with the model showing 3,766 square feet plus another 1,258 square feet of finished basement space. It comes with four bedrooms and 3.5 baths included, but there are options to add a main-floor guest suite (not shown in the model), another bedroom and bathroom in the basement (shown in the model), and a fifth second-floor bedroom in lieu of the loft (not shown).
One of the secondary bedrooms, which is styled as a kids’ room with twin beds boasting funky headboards, could be a second primary suite as it has its own ensuite and walk-in closet with window.
The roomy basement includes a rec room with TV area and games area and a glassed-in gym, along with the extra bedroom and bathroom.

Nova II (#1)
There are actually two Nova models at Northwoods, both end units. The first one is 1,780 square feet with 464 square feet of finished basement space, including a bathroom. The main floor is open concept, with an open mudroom and a flex space next to the kitchen.
The floor plan comes standard with three bedrooms upstairs and a laundry closet, but the model shows the optional four-bedroom layout, which shifts the laundry to the basement. Along with the laundry and bathroom downstairs, there’s also a cosy rec room with fireplace and games area.

The Equinox
The Equinox is an interior townhome with three bedrooms and 1,660 square feet (plus 450 square feet of finished basement space). Where the Nova model was done with generous swaths of black, the Equinox takes a lighter approach, using soft neutrals and white in the decor. The open-concept main floor boasts a flex space outfitted with bench seating around a dining table and a fireplace in the living room.
There are three bedrooms upstairs, including a generous primary suite, as well as a walk-in laundry room and the main bathroom. One of the secondary bedrooms is shown as a home office. Downstairs, meanwhile, the finished basement is styled to show both a spot for exercising and one for relaxing, as well as the optional finished bathroom.

The Nova II (#2)
The second Nova model boasts most of the same features as the first one, with the exception that the optional fourth bedroom is not shown and the optional basement bathroom has not been finished. That means there is 402 square feet of basement space (versus the 464 square feet of the first Nova model).
This townhome also has a warmer colour palette, favouring woods and earth tones, with layered texture in materials and wall or ceiling treatments to give it a hint of a classic look. One of the secondary bedrooms is an adorable nursery in pale blue while the other is shown as an office and the basement includes a cute kids’ area.
