CHEO Dream of a Lifetime lottery & show home

Until Dec. 13 — The Dream of a Lifetime lottery fundraiser for CHEO launched Sept. 4. From then until Dec. 13, get your lottery ticket and take a tour of the grand prize dream home, which is designer-decorated and fully furnished.

RenoTour Parade of Homes (virtual)

Until fall 2025 — If you’re researching renovators for your own project, check out these 3D walk-throughs of Ottawa-area renovations, coach homes, additions and infill homes. They’re an opportunity to virtually see the work of several of Ottawa’s top renovators and in many cases include before and after comparisons and other details. Find out more.

Is your landscape ready for severe weather?

Nov. 28 — If your home is an older one or you have mature trees and established gardens you want to safeguard, this online workshop by Heritage Ottawa may be for you. It will focus on how weather impacts the outside of our homes, good practices for the design and management of rainwater flow and prudent care and maintenance of trees and shrubs. It will also explore what can you do yourself and when is professional advice needed to understand and prepare your property. There is a $50 fee to attend. Details.

Repair Café

Nov. 30 — Keep your household items out of the landfill by visiting a Repair Café. These events — this is the final one for this year — are free and will feature volunteer fixers and menders from Ottawa Tool Library who will help repair items like electronics, textiles, small appliances, jewelry and more. Details.

Signatures Originals Christmas Craft Show

Dec. 4-8 — Check out curated handmade and handcrafted items from 180+ Canadian artists and artisans at this annual sale. Whether searching for your home or looking for gifts, you’re sure to find the perfect unique piece. It’s held at the EY Centre. Details.

Meaning of home contest

Jan. 6-Feb. 21 — Habitat for Humanity wants to know what the meaning of home is to Grade 4-6 students. Bringing back its national writing contest, students are invited to submit a poem or essay explaining what home means to them. The grand prize winner will receive a $30,000 grant and the runner up gets a $10,000 grant. Both will also receive and iPad and a pizza party. Details.

Ottawa Home & Remodelling Show

Jan. 23-26 — Shop for home-related products and services, connect with industry experts and enjoy informative presentations from renowned local and international home professionals, including celebrity contractor Bryan Baeumler. Details.
