Tartan’s two new model homes in Russell Trails, the Tweed and the Summerhill, are a perfect complement to the friendly, growing community just east of Ottawa. Designed by Unique Spaces, the models showcase Tartan’s standard and upgraded features – an ideal match for any budget. The town of Russell blends traditional, small-town charms with modern amenities and proximity to downtown Ottawa. Russell was also recently named by MoneySense magazine as the third best place to live in Canada.
The Summerhill
Type: Two-storey single
Size: 2,573 sq. ft.
Bedrooms: 4
Bathrooms: 3
Key features: The Craftsman-inspired Summerhill is Tartan’s most popular single-family home in Russell Trails, says sales representative Cheryl Henry. “It’s the perfect home for a family and has everything you need.” That includes an oversized garage, a bright interior, a formal dining room, and ample room for every member of the family. Options in the Energy Star-certified home include an extra bathroom on the second floor and an upgraded basement.
Like the rest of the Summerhill, the kitchen includes few upgrades so visitors can get a good sense of what a standard version of the home looks like. The granite countertop and under-the-cabinet lights, however, are upgrades. “White is still the most popular kitchen,” says Henry. “It’s classic.”
The spacious master bedroom is separated from the other bedrooms by a hallway, heightening its privacy. It features a walk-through closet, and the room overlooks the backyard.
The 4-piece ensuite boasts his and hers sinks, a 5-foot shower and a corner soaker tub with its own window.
The Tweed
Type: Bungalow
Size: 1,591 sq. ft.
Bedrooms: 2 or 4
Bathrooms: 2 or 3
Key features: Light and bright thanks to its oversized windows and patio doors, the Tweed is available as a 2-bedroom bungalow or as a bungalow-plus-loft with 4 bedrooms and an extra bath. Another bedroom can also be added to the spacious basement. The Energy Star-qualified home also features an oversized garage for extra storage and a vaulted ceiling on the main floor.
The kitchen in the Tweed model home includes an upgraded ceramic backsplash and ceiling-high cabinetry in a pleasing Shaker design with furniture-style hardware. The extended breakfast bar, which is standard in the Tweed, seats up to 5, and there’s room for a cosy breakfast nook overlooking the deck and backyard.
The Tweed’s open-concept great room features a soaring 20-foot vaulted ceiling, which always elicits a “Wow!” from visitors, says Henry. “The ceiling makes everything look so big, so even though it’s not really a large bungalow, it feels so spacious.” The upgraded stone surround on the fireplace helps anchor the room while the teal chairs add a note of casual sophistication. The rich oak hardwood flooring is a standard feature on much of the main floor.
The dining room in the Tweed is generously sized and open to the rest of the main living area while still affording a touch of privacy and intimacy. The vaulted ceiling adds to the dining room’s sense of spaciousness.
Prices
At the time of writing, the Summerhill started at $471,900 and the Tweed at $435,900. Remember that prices change; for current information, see our development profile of Russell Trails.
