Spring decor ideas: Easy ways to freshen up your home for the season

The days are getting longer, the sun is out more, birds are singing and even though it is still cold, we know spring is on its way — so let’s welcome it with some spring decor ideas!

I just love the change from winter to spring. It’s like a breath of fresh air into our lives and homes.

In this article, I’ll show you some quick ways to bring spring decor into your home that are easy, cost effective and can be done in a weekend.

From heavy to light

Put away your heavy accessories and bring out the lighter ones. Gone are the heavy blankets, cushions and cuddly pieces that kept you warm over winter. Bring out the lighter, fresher-feeling accessories that embody the season ahead. It makes such a difference to your space and to you.

This spring my living room has been given a quick lift with a fresh green throw, blue solid cushions and these fabulous butterfly cushions. The moment I put them all out they brought a smile to my face and winter seemed to just drift away.

A centrepiece for the birds

I decided for my spring dining table centrepiece to do something simple.

I used three wooden candle holders, added some bird nests I found in my garden last year — so glad I kept them — and added sweet mini birds I had around the house. I placed them on a cotton navy and cream runner and I am set for spring!

Check out how I pulled the look together:

Change up your curtains

Many of us never think to change our curtains from season to season. Lighter fabrics and colours make such a difference in your room after a long, dark winter.

In my opinion, the best place to purchase curtains is Giant Tiger. They have such a great selection at good prices. Why not give it a try and change out your curtains for spring and summer?

Create unique artwork

I was visiting a client and she wanted some fresh new artwork on the wall for spring, but she didn’t want to pay the big bucks.

We came up with a fantastic solution.

She had a unique botanical coffee table book featuring lovely floral art. We selected a few favourites and she removed them from the book. We then bought some matching frames and put it all together. She loved the way her gallery wall turned out.

Bring in the flowers — faux or real

After a long winter, there is no better feeling than having a pop of colour in our homes. Flowers of all types, real or faux, can really help lift our spaces and spirits.

Consider using an array of vases, containers, bottles and different pieces for your arrangements — anything that catches your creativity.

A spring welcome for your porch

Nothing says “welcome” to your family and friends like a spring-inspired porch.

The first weekend in April was still cold but I couldn’t wait any longer! I had the spring bug, so I dressed warmly and started creating my own spring porch.
