The meaning of home
Until Feb. 20 — Habitat for Humanity’s annual Meaning of Home national contest returns, offering children in grades 4 to 6 the opportunity to share what home means to them in a poem or essay for the chance to win up to a $30,000 grant for their local Habitat as well as a tablet for themselves and a pizza party for their class. More than 135,000 students have entered since the contest began in 2007. Details.
Winterlude Art Show
Until Feb. 16 — The Capital Art Fair Gallery Winterlude Art Show at 71 Sparks St. features more than 30 Ottawa-area artists and artisans presenting original winter- and Ottawa-inspired works in gallery and boutique settings. Explore a range of handcrafted items and participate in art workshops. Thirty per cent of items are under $200. Details.
Repair Café
Feb. 21 — Throw it away? No way! Fix it at the Repair Café. Repair Cafés are an international concept that has come to the National Capital Region with the goal of reducing landfill waste, teaching new skills and building community. Got a (portable) household item that needs repairing? Bring it along. Ron Kolbus Lakeside Centre, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Details.
