Easy updates for your home: 5 ways to get a fresh look for the new year

The start of a new year is a natural time for a new outlook, and this includes easy updates for rethinking our homes. As we pack up the Christmas decorations, it is the perfect time to consider a refresh of your home for the days ahead.

Here are five easy updates to quickly and simply breathe new life into your space.

Restyle your coffee table

Take a fresh look at your coffee table and what is on it. This is a great way to freshen a space. Coffee tables are typically in the centre of the room so are often a focal point.

Make sure you have items of different heights — perhaps a few books, a candle, an interesting piece like a small orb or box, etc. — all placed on a tray or large book.

A hint of spring

A few bulbs, fresh flowers or a new plant are one of the easiest updates you can do. I don’t know about you, but just looking at live plants or flowers makes me smile and immediately lifts my spirits, especially on a cold winter’s day.

Have you ever thought about having a circular rug in your home? I love them so much, I now have four!

They can update a space, add interest and give movement to the room, making it appear larger. Circular rugs come in all sizes and textures from sisal and jute to fabric and you can use them anywhere.

Clear the clutter with baskets

Baskets, especially large ones, are a stylish godsend. They can easily hide your clutter, storing toys, magazines, throws and more. Large baskets are great storage for throws and cushions while still giving you easy access.

You can even use a basket as a planter. They come in all sorts of sizes, textures and colours to make it easy to select the ones that work for you.

Did you know you can even place baskets under your coffee table for extra storage?

Angle it

I invite you to move your furniture away from the walls. You’ll be amazed at how your space will change.

Have fun and don’t be intimated. If you don’t like the way things look, keep moving them around until it’s the way you want.

By angling your furniture, you will find that your use of the room will also improve, with a new welcoming, conversation area.

I hope these easy updates help you to bring fresh energy into your home during these cold winter months.
