Featured in the 2024 RenoTour, this 1950s bungalow has been transformed into a comfortable, quiet and highly energy-efficient home that also looks great. An exterior facelift, triple-glazed windows, insulation upgrading and a modern HVAC system were all part of the major retrofit. The interior is now a dramatic new space thanks to the removal of the fireplace, new floors and a redesigned, user-friendly kitchen.

Rural home makeover | Lagois Design-Build-Renovate

A dark kitchen with poor flow, a drab home office with no privacy, a hopeless powder room: these and many other problems meant a makeover of this rural bungalow was a must. Working closely with the owners, Lagois delivered a new, bright, open-concept kitchen with plentiful prep space, a handsome new fireplace anchoring the living room, a flexible-living-based office, a stunning deep green powder room, and more.

Contemporary custom kitchen | Potvin Construction

Part of a new custom home, this contemporary kitchen with a striking architectural vibe won the 2022 All Things Home People’s Choice Award for Potvin Construction. The project, which featured extensive input from the homeowner, includes a large, stepped island with two distinct eating areas, an emerald-toned tiled backsplash, and a back wall with niches, changing volumes, and varied tones and textures.

Lottery home | Laurysen Kitchens

Designed to “wow” visitors, the annual Dream of a Lifetime lottery grand prize home, with Laurysen as a proud partner, showcases some of the best that Ottawa has to offer. The 2024 home has already won national accolades, including for the Laurysen-supplied kitchen, designed in conjunction with Tanner Vine Interiors. The Nordic-influenced space features a 25-foot run of custom cabinetry, including glass-fronted storage, a stunning 13-foot cantilevered island, integrated appliances and a hidden pantry with a prep kitchen inside.

Built to accommodate two sisters in their golden years, this eye-catching contemporary duplex features one home facing the street and the second tucked behind for more privacy, in keeping with the preferences of the owners. The Hintonburg project spotlights what can be achieved when love, creativity and a view to the future are invested in an infill home.

This “Mid-Century Marvel” was both a provincial awards winner and a local awards finalist in 2024. Mid-century modern style inspired the project, including an open-concept kitchen with striking wood elements and a bar area (shown), a remodeled bathroom in contrasting dark and light hues, a family room with a fireplace and dining area, and a generous foyer with large tiles and a wood accent wall.

MBHE Inc coach home net zero

Net zero coach house | MBHE Inc.

This project is the Ottawa area’s first net zero coach house. Yet while it is a supplementary dwelling, it’s by no means tiny, boasting vaulted ceilings, more than 900 sq. ft., two bedrooms, smart home features and was built with accessibility in mind. There’s also an emphasis on indoor-outdoor living, with a large covered patio and an abundance of large windows to let in the view and natural light.

Farmhouse kitchen update | Urban Quarry

A delightfully charming farmhouse renovation with BEX Interiors captured the All Things Home People’s Choice Award at the 2021 Ottawa Housing Design Awards. Updating for today’s modern living while respecting the history of the home, the kitchen remodel included a combination of Hanstone Artisan Grey quartz perimeter counters paired with a reclaimed bowling alley floor for the butcher block island countertop.

This national and local award-winning contemporary bungalow, designed by Hobin Architecture, is built on a cliff top with a cantilevered terrace overlooking a densely treed ravine and a walkout basement with stunning views. The home is also net zero.
