Echoing 2020, Amsted Design-Build and Minto Communities were the sole Ottawa-based winners at the recent 2022 Ontario Home Builders’ Association Awards of Distinction.
The event was not held last year because of the pandemic, and the names of finalists were not released this year prior to the awards gala.
Amsted, which has won the provincial renovator of the year award a record four times, took home two top honours this time for the same project, winning the home renovation up to $250,000 award and the bathroom renovation trophy.
“The renovation project was a modern update to a typical Ottawa-area home,” says Amsted’s Steve Barkhouse. “We sought to create a singular open-concept living and entertaining space, which was achieved, and more, with the help of the beautiful, contemporary selections made by the homeowners.”
The bathroom award was “part of a primary suite update, in which the homeowner sought to create her own little oasis… A few of the highlights of the space include a new deep soaker tub, modern vertical tiling in the updated glass shower, and a hidden medicine cabinet built into the wainscoting.”
Amsted was a finalist in five categories this year, including renovator of the year. Other Ottawa finalists included RND Construction and Glenview Homes, both previous provincial award winners.
Minto Communities, headquartered in Ottawa, was this year’s most-awarded company, taking home three trophies related to its Toronto operations as well as winning a new special recognition award for capturing the most trophies this year. The new honour celebrates the 30th anniversary of the OHBA awards.
Minto was a finalist in 12 categories.
