Multi-award-winning renovator and custom builder RND Construction is showcasing an energy-efficient home designed by Simmonds Architecture and built by RND as its offering in the 2026 RenoTour Parade of Homes.
The home, which is a finalist in multiple categories at this fall’s Housing Design Awards, including being a candidate for the All Things Home People’s Choice Award, features several elements for which RND is known, especially the company’s commitment to sustainable design.
The RenoTour Parade of Homes is presented by the Greater Ottawa Home Builders’ Association (GOHBA) and RenoMark (a national program that identifies professional contractors who have signed on to a code of conduct that protects the homeowner).
This home is one of eight stops that can be visited in person on Oct. 18. There is no charge, although some locations may be collecting charitable donations, including RND.

Q: What made you decide to join the tour this year?
A: As dedicated participants in both GOHBA and our local community, we derive immense satisfaction from engaging in the tour, extending our assistance to the Ottawa Food Bank, and making new acquaintances. Since its inception in 2015, we have consistently taken pride in our involvement in the tour, and this year continues that unbroken tradition.
Q: Why choose this project for the tour?
A: This home is an excellent example of how thoughtful design, sustainability and everyday functionality can work together. As a certified net zero, all-electric custom home, it demonstrates that exceptional energy performance can be achieved without sacrificing comfort, style or livability.
Although it is a new home, you will see elements that are typical in most of our renovations. Every aspect of the design responds to the unique characteristics of the site while creating a warm, contemporary family home that is built to perform for generations.
Q: What can you tell us about this project?
A: Built on a challenging corner lot, this home was designed around privacy, mature trees and neighbourhood requirements. An L-shaped layout creates a private courtyard, while preserving the existing garage footprint helped maximize the home’s potential. The result is a contemporary family home that performs approximately 52 per cent more efficiently than a code-compliant natural gas home.
Q: What kinds of things should visitors watch for when they tour the project?
A: Look for the private courtyard, the seamless indoor-outdoor connection and the functional open-concept layout. Visitors can also see how the home’s net zero design, all-electric systems and thoughtful planning create a comfortable, energy-efficient home without compromising style.
Q: What do you expect to have on hand for visitors?
A: Although the homeowners are not expected to be present, RND team members will be there to answer any questions. We will also have information about net zero homes, suppliers will have brochures, and we will be serving refreshments.
